THORAX project

PDB is partner in the project "Thoracic injury assessment for improved vehicle safety - THORAX". A project funded within the 7th Framework Programm of the EC.

The Seventh Framework Programme for Research and Technological Development (FP7) is the EU's main instrument for funding research in Europe and it will run from 2007-2013. FP7 is also designed to respond to Europe's employment needs, competitiveness and quality of life.

The FP7 project THORAX will focus on reduction and prevention of thoracic injuries, one of the dominant causes for fatalities and Injuries in car crashes.

The general objectives of THORAX are to develop required understanding in thoracic injury mechanisms and to implement this into numerical and experimental tools that will enable the design and evaluation of advanced vehicle restraint systems that offer optimal protection for a wide variety of car occupants. In order to maximise the safety benefits gained from new vehicle and restraint technology for various genders, ages and sizes of occupants, these tools will have to be much more sensitive to the in-vehicle occupant environment than what is the case today.
